El juego de damas, popular en mas de 40 paises, se desarrolla actualmente mediante varios sistemas utilizando para ellos tableros de diferente numero de casillas: 64, 100 y 144. Puede pensarse en un principio que el juego tiene su origen alrededor del siglo XV en el reino de Aragon (zona de Valencia). Se conocia en aquel momento con el nombre de "juego del marro", "marro de punta", o "el ingenio" Es a partir de 1650 cuando paso a denominarse definitivamente "juego de las damas" o simplemente "juego de damas". Parece evidente que el juego llego a los Paises Bajos procedente de Espana, a causa de las campanas militares que se desarrollaron en Flandes ente 1568 y 1648, por ello resultaba aun mas curioso el hecho de que hubiera alcanzado tal desarrollo en estos paises, hubiese practicamente desaparecido en Espana.
