The Carpenters were a vocal and instrumental duo of Karen Ann Carpenter, born 1950 and her elder brother Richard Lynn Carpenter born 1946, from New Haven, Connecticut, US, who had a distinct soft musical style, combining Karen's contralto vocals with Richard's arranging and composition skills. During their 14-year career, the Carpenters recorded 10 albums, along with many singles and several TV specials.
