Avalonian and Cadomian Geology of the North Atlantic

This volume collates the histories of late Pre-cambrian and early Palaeozoic terrains which were once linked, but have since become separated by later tectonic movements. The Pre-cambrian England-Wales massif and the Armorican massif lie at the hub of this activity, and these are discussed in detail and related to contemporaneous terrains in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, New England, Ireland, Bohemia, Spain and Northwest Africa. The evolution of orogenic activity from 750 to 500 Ma BP in the region is reconstructed in the concluding two chapters. This is a book for geologists, geochemists and geophysicists studying orogenesis, early earth evolution, and ancient plate movements. Advanced undergraduates and postgraduates will also find it useful.
