Over the past decade this book, written by a leading Shakespeare editor and expert on textual studies, has proved its value as the only currently available introduction to the foundations of the text of Shakespeare. It is now substantially revised to reflect new research on Shakespeare’s collaborative work, the foundations of editorial practice, and the history of the book. Jowett examines Shakespeare’s writing in the environment of the theatre, and the printing of the earliest surviving texts.
