This handbook suggests some solutions to a variety of problems that hydrologists may encounter, including determining the magnitudes of floods and mitigating their effects; assessing the water supply for a city or farming area; characterizing the extent of surface or ground water pollution; developing solutions for cleaning up and preventing pollution or contamination of natural waters; learning reliable methods for urban drainage design; and protecting wildlife and preserving wetlands. Written by more than 50 experts from all over the world, this handbook covers various aspects of hydrology. It is divided into four sections. The first deals with phases of the hydrologic cycle; the second covers water transport of particulates and chemicals; the third section covers statistical methods applied to hydrology; and the final section deals with computer programs, remote sensing, forecasting, and design for surface and subsurface water quality and quantity.
