The Long Walk Home

Chris Lewis

An incredible true story of one man, his dog and the adventure of their lives. Chris Lewis, a former paratrooper, goes on a journey of self-discovery as he walks the length of the UK. Chris Lewis, a former paratrooper with the 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment, was deeply depressed and suicidal. Knowing he had to do something, he decided he would walk the entire UK coastline. In August 2017, he set off on the long, lonely and at times arduous road towards what he hoped would be a happier life.

Nine months into his journey, he adopted a sweet dog called Jet. Together they continued on, step by step, side by side. When lockdown restrictions came into force in March 2020, they spent the entire period self-isolating on the remote, uninhabited Shetland island of Hildasay, where Chris foraged, fished and collected driftwood for fuel.

With each new challenge he faced, Chris felt the happiest he'd ever been. So when he met a fellow traveller, Kate Barron, he knew that the best was yet to come. And it was.

This is a remarkable tale of one man's (and his dog's) journey and a reminder that love and hope can often arrive when you least expect them.
