This is an excellent release from BIS. Over the years, Neeme Järvi’s recordings of the Tchaikovsky Symphonies have been well received in the world of classical music. Symphony No.2, Little Russian, was hailed by Gramophone as ‘an outstanding performance … beautifully played and paced and immaculately recorded’ and No.3, Polish, of which, to quote International Record Review, Järvi presented ‘a free-flowing account that places choreographic elegance before symphonic muscle’. We are also treated to his performances of Tchaikovsky’s miscellaneous orchestral music such as Francesca da Rimini, The Snow Maiden, Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture, Serenade for Strings and many others. Highly recommended.
