Review

This beautifully packaged disc brings together works by Handel and William Croft, commissioned to celebrate the Treaty of Utrecht. In 1713, this treaty helped to end the Spanish War of Succession and brought about the first peace achieved through diplomacy. The Te Deum and Jubilate *by Handel are an enduring part of his oeuvre, while the music of William Croft is less well known and truly worthy of acquaintance. The Netherlands Bach Society, under the direction of Jos van Veldhoven, gives performances of great clarity that burst with warmth and energy. This is their third release on Channel Classics to be featured in Gramophone Magazine* as an Editor’s Choice.
