Paul Capsis is one of Australia’s most versatile performers. His extensive career has included theatre, film, live concerts and cabaret. Paul’s music background is varied having sung with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Soweto Gospel Choir of South Africa, Judi Connelli, Russell Crowe and Marcia Hines amongst many others. He is always in demand to take part in a wide range of music and arts festivals across Australia and New Zealand. Paul is also a popular guest in television variety and has performed for My Favourite Album, In Siberia Tonight, The Sideshow, Sunday Arts, Spicks and Specks, Studio A with Simon Burke, Mornings with Kerry Anne and as a guest presenter for the ABC’s Art Nation. Make Me A King grew out of a live concert Paul did for the Melbourne International Jazz Festival ‘Songs of Love and Death’. The songs Make Me A King CD are from great singers of the past to bands of today like REM, Garbage, Lou Reed, Leonard Cohen, Janis Joplin and many more. All have been given a unique twist by Paul.

Review

Paul Capsis’s much-anticipated new album is a project born from his performance at this year’s Melbourne International Jazz Festival. Festival director (and ex-Readings employee) Sophie Brous commissioned Paul to perform a show comprising covers of classic standards – and some contemporary pop classics – backed by a stellar jazz band.
