Nobody's Girl
Virginia Roberts Giuffre
I picked up this memoir on a whim, having only a limited understanding of Virginia Giuffre’s story, and wanting to learn more in her own words.
What unfolds is a deeply confronting and powerful account of survival, resilience, and the long path toward reclaiming autonomy. This is not an easy read. Giuffre shares her experiences with unflinching honesty, offering a narrative that is as distressing as it is important.
There is something profoundly moving in her decision to tell her story on her own terms. In doing so, she not only reclaims her voice, but also creates space for others whose experiences have been silenced.
Now that she is gone, this memoir stands as part of her legacy. Ensuring her voice endures, and continues to speak for those who cannot.

Dead Souls
Nikolay Gogol
This is a reminder to all those out there reading Dostoevsky because he's on a reddit reading list. Please, I beg you to remember that Gogol exists and he has the mental blast radius of a warhead.
Our bumbling and savvy protagonist, Chichikov, is a bourgeois con-artist, has been slated as a surrealist character. But do not be fooled, in a world as absurd and dark as ours, I found myself feeling as if I was looking through a mirror to the honeycombs of our throbbing city lives, filled with petty gripes, grifts and crime(s of the rich). This is a world where one day off from work can lead to houselessness and democratic leaders act with the impunity of the dictators we have collectively banished to the past. This is the world of Dead Souls.
