We love this gripping Australian crime thriller

Jane Harper’s The Dry was one of the biggest books of 2016. She’s now released Force of Nature, another addictive crime thriller featuring Federal Police Agent Aaron Falk, and we’re pleased to report it lives up to our high expectations. Here are a collection of testimonials from booksellers about the novel.

‘Federal Police Agent Aaron Falk is back and I’m embarrassed to admit it, but I think I’m a little in love with him. This time he’s working on a missing-person case that may or may not involve a murder. Alice Russell has disappeared into the rugged Giralang Ranges while on a corporate retreat with four of her female colleagues. As we trace through the events that led to Alice’s disappearance, we’re treated to Harper’s utterly compelling, fierce and occasionally very funny portrayal of the dynamic between these women. I loved reading about them, and found myself entirely caught up in the mystery until the very last page!’

Stella Charls, events and marketing coordinator

'I devoured Force of Nature in one sitting. I literally could not stop myself reading due to the relentless pace, the chapters that leave you hanging breathlessly and the well drawn characters. This is thrilling, complex Australian crime fiction that will be enjoyed by anyone who likes a good story.’

Angela Crocombe, manager of Readings Kids

Force of Nature is everything I wanted from Jane Harper’s second book: a fascinating mystery, intrigue, secrets, lies, plot twists and the return of Aaron Falk. Fans of The Dry won’t be disappointed.’

Nina Kenwood, marketing manager

‘While this uneasy and atmospheric novel is quite different from its predecessor – it is no less compelling for it. As with The Dry, the unforgiving Australian terrain plays an important role in the narrative, and Harper’s evocative writing puts you right there among the eucalyptus, the cold mountain air and the perilous mountain terrain. Falk is a fascinating character and I enjoyed meeting his unflappable partner Carmen. I’m already looking forward to the next instalment.’

Lian Hingee, digital marketing manager

‘This is an absolute page-turner. I read the book almost in one sitting and was only prevented by other commitments dragging me away. Force of Nature features women behaving so badly that I was a little stunned by this story, and I genuinely had no idea what the ending would reveal. This book is entertainment at its very best.’

Chris Gordon, events manager

‘Jane Harper has proved she absolutely doesn’t suffer from 'second novel syndrome’ with Force of Nature. I loved returning to the world of Aaron Falk, and the setting of a corporate wilderness retreat was the perfect environment for office politics and rivalry to run amok. This is one of my favourite books of 2017.‘
