Former Divinyls singer Chrissy Amphlett dies at 53.

Surrounded by family and friends, singer Chrissy Amphlett passed away on Monday morning after a long battle with cancer. The Geelong born singer was diagnosed with MS in 1998 and in 2011 shocked fans when she announced she was also fighting breast cancer. Her pre-existing MS prevented her from being able to undergo radiation treatment or chemotherapy.

Having released five studio albums with the Divinyls, Amphlett’s success peaked with their self-titled album in 1991, which included the single ‘I Touch Myself’ and pushed the band to international acclaim. The Divinyls were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2006 and Amphlett was also named one of Australia’s top ten singers of all time last month.

Known for her captivating stage presence, she will be remembered as a pioneer of Australian music and for woman in the Australian music industry.
