Tomorrow, When the War Began makes its television premiere

The first episode of ABC3’s new adaptation of John Marsden’s groundbreaking Tomorrow series kicks off tomorrow night at 7:30pm. Here at Readings we are SO excited.

This series follows a group of teenagers-turned-guerrilla soldiers after the invasion and occupation of Australia by an unnamed foreign power. The seven novels in the series were all published between 1993 and 1999, and have since been translated into five languages. The Tomorrow series remains one of the most significant contributions to the Australian young adult literary canon, and Marsden’s characters remain as compelling and unforgettable as ever. Now is the perfect time to revisit the series – or to introduce your own teen reader to Ellie, Homer, Lee, Robyn, Chris, Corrie and Fi.

This new 6-part TV series covers the events of the first book (Tomorrow, When the War Began) and stars a slew of talented young actresses and actors including Molly Daniels as the tough and quick-thinking Ellie. In its review of the show, the Sydney Morning Herald writes: ‘ Tomorrow’s target audience is guaranteed to embrace it, but this is a thriller sophisticated enough to appeal to anyone.’

So make sure you tune into ABC3 this Saturday at 7.30pm for the first episode. We definitely will! And, in the meantime, you can watch a sneak peek here.
