Tim Winton wins the Voss Literary Prize 2019

Tim Winton has been named the winner of the 2019 Voss Literary Prize for his novel, The Shepherd’s Hut.

The Shepherd’s Hut is a searing look at what it takes to keep love and hope alive in a parched and brutal world.

In his review, our managing director Mark Rubbo writes: ‘Reading this book is like a roller coaster; the vernacular, the language, is a wild and constant surprise… The Shepherd’s Hut is an adventure story about disappointment, about friendship, about risk, about growing up, growing old and about sadness. And what a treat this story is.’

Launched in 2014, the Voss Literary Prize is awarded to the best novel published in Australia in the previous year, and is dedicated to the memory of historian Vivian Robert Le Vaux Voss. As the winner, Winton will receive $5000.

Winton was joined on the shortlist by Melissa Lucashenko, Gail Jones, Robyn Cadwallader, Peter Cochrane and Trent Dalton. Find the full shortlist here.
