The Barbara Jefferis Award shortlist 2020
The Australian Society of Authors (ASA) has announced the shortlist for the 2020 Barbara Jefferis Award.
This prize is awarded every two years for ‘the best novel written by an Australian author that depicts women and girls in a positive way or otherwise empowers the status of women and girls in society’.
This year’s shortlisted titles are:
- The White Girl by Tony Birch
- Too Much Lip by Melissa Lucashenko
- There Was Still Love by Favel Parrett
- Wolfe Island by Lucy Treloar
- The Yield by Tara June Winch

Previous winners include Libby Angel, Peggy Frew, Margo Lanagan, Fiona McFarlane, Anna Funder, G.L. Osborne, Kristina Olsson, Helen Garner and Rhyll McMaster.
The 2020 winner will be announced on 19 November and receive prize money of $55,000, with $5000 to be distributed to the other shortlisted authors.
