The 2022 International Booker Prize shortlist


The shortlist for this year’s International Booker Prize has been announced!

The International Booker Prize celebrates the finest works of translated fiction from around the world. The prize is awarded every year for a single book that is translated into English and published in the UK or Ireland. It aims to encourage more publishing and reading of quality works of imagination from all over the world, and to give greater recognition to the role of translators.The contribution of both author and translator is given equal recognition, with the £50,000 prize split evenly between them. This year’s shortlist spans six languages: Korean, Norwegian, Japanese, Spanish, Hindi and Polish

Below are the six shortlisted books for the 2022 International Booker Prize.

  • Cursed Bunny, written by Bora Chung, translated by Anton Hur from Korean
  • A New Name Septology VI-VII, written by Jon Fosse, translated by Damion Searls from Norwegian
  • Heaven, written by Mieko Kawakami, translated by Samuel Bett and David Boyd from Japanese
  • Elena Knows, written by Claudia Piñeiro, translated by Frances Riddle from Spanish
  • Tomb of Sand, written by Geetanjali Shree, translated by Daisy Rockwell from Hindi
  • The Books of Jacob, written by Olga Tokarczuk, translated by Jennifer Croft from Polish
