The Other Side of the World by Stephanie Bishop

We're pleased to share that Stephanie Bishop has won The Readings Prize for New Australian Fiction 2015 for her second novel, The Other Side of the World.

Chair of judges Elke Power said:

“Stephanie Bishop’s affinity for landscape is profound; her prose is elegant and viscerally evocative. Bishop has a rare gift for capturing the intangible – nostalgia, homesickness, ambivalence about identity and family, and more – and casting it anew. The Other Side of the World is a significant and exciting contribution to the Australian literary canon.”

The Readings Children's Book Prize

Rivertime by Trace Balla

Earlier this year, we were excited to announce that Trace Balla was the winner of the Readings Children’s Book Prize 2015 for her graphic novel, Rivertime.

Our judges said:

“We chose Rivertime as the 2015 winner for many reasons: it is unique, we love its artistry and it is a stunning debut that heralds the arrival of an exciting new Australian author–illustrator. The attention to detail in Rivertime is extraordinary, engrossing you in the exquisite flora and fauna on each page as you follow the action. And then there are the stunning double-page spreads that allow the eye to relax and the brain to go ‘aaahh’.”

You can read more about Balla's win, including a statement from guest judge Sally Rippin here.
