Teenage readers love It Sounded Better in My Head

We’ve been sad to say goodbye to our most recent round of Teen Advisory Board members (and thrilled to welcome a new cohort – but more on that later!). We’ve had a wonderful time working with them over the last year, and their thoughts, knowledge and enthusiasm have been put to good use!

We have also asked them to give us their thoughts on It Sounded Better in My Head (6 August), the funny, joyful and tender debut Young Adult novel of teenage anxieties and first loves from Readings’ own Nina Kenwood. Find out what they thought below.

‘I really enjoyed Nina’s book. It Sounded Better in My Head is an honest and realistic depiction of adolescence, and an adventurous, fun, upbeat read that you wouldn’t want to miss.’ – Zach

'I love Nina’s book so far! It’s a realistic depiction of young life and relatable struggles.’ – Jess

‘A very honest, real, raw read. Captures the teen experience so truthfully and with such passion that I struggled to put it down!’ – Ngaire

It Sounded Better in My Head was a fun, feel-good book that I just didn’t want to finish. The protagonist was one of the most relatable characters I’ve seen in a long time. I often found myself reading something she said or did and thinking, “hang on, I’m not the only one who does that?!” I can’t wait to reread this in the future.’ – Xiao-Xiao

‘The most fun, hilarious and relatable book I’ve read for a long time! I couldn’t put it down and I’m recommending it to everyone.’ – Marley

‘Such a page-turner! Really lovable and fleshed-out characters – a lot of care went into this book and you can tell.’ – Luci

‘It was an amazing book that perfectly captured the awkwardness and fears of the unknown as teenagers. I honestly thought that I was reading a recount of my time between school and uni, but with great eloquence and complexity.’ – Laura

‘A very well-written book with great emotional depth. She perfectly captured both the inner voice and the anxieties that many teens face, creating an authentic, emotional and very real book.’ – Uly

It Sounded Better in My Head is a laugh-out-loud novel that contains a relatable teenage voice.’ – Lil
