Readings to open new shop at Emporium Melbourne

PRESS RELEASE

Independent book retailer Readings is set to open up shop in Emporium, Melbourne by the end of 2021. It has been a tumultuous 18 months for bricks-and-mortar retail, and Readings sees this as reaffirming its commitment to books, the city of Melbourne and the publishing industry.

Mark Rubbo, managing director at Readings, is excited by the project: ‘There is some risk of course as we are banking on the city coming back to life, but we see this as a really positive statement for Readings, for the city, for authors, for publishers and for bricks-and-mortar booksellers. We are proud to be a Melbourne company and believe in our city and its resilience. We hope by investing in the city, and in turn local authors and publishers, we will strengthen our literary community, our business and provide more opportunities for employment.’

Kerstin Thompson Architects have been signed to design the fit-out of the light-filled 300sqm, overlooking Little Bourke Street.

Joe Rubbo, operations manager at Readings, said: ‘We are thrilled to work with Kerstin and her team. We know it will be a beautiful space for readers to connect, discover new authors and share ideas. We look forward to holding events in the space, which we know people are really looking forward to in 2022.’

Readings Emporium is set to open by late 2021.
