Readings Foundation charity author auction: a special one-night only event

We are thrilled to announce the first-ever Readings Personal Shopper Author auction, a special one-night only charity event with some of your favourite authors to raise money for the Readings Foundation.

With the rise in popularity of writers’ festivals, author talks, and book clubs, this is an entirely new way for readers and writers to connect with authors.

Held in conjunction with Penguin Random House, this charity event takes the familiar idea of the personal shopper, and gives it a distinctly literary twist. If you’re lucky enough to be the highest bidder, you and a friend will attend an exclusive cocktail party on Tuesday 28 May 2019, where your personal shopper will guide you on a personal tour of the shelves of Readings at the State Library.

As well as recommending some excellent books, your author will share their guilty pleasures, divulge what books (and which authors) inspire them, and lead you around the parts of the shop they always gravitate towards. As part of your winning bid, you’ll also receive a goodie bag from Penguin Random House.

This event will be closed to the public, and only the winning bidders and their friend will be allowed entry.

The participating authors for the auction are (in alphabetical order):

  • Alison Lester
  • Elliot Perlman
  • George Megalogenis
  • Jamila Rizvi
  • Jane Godwin & Michael Wagner
  • John Safran
  • Marc Martin
  • Marieke Hardy
  • Michael Carr-Gregg
  • Paul Bangay
  • Scott Pickett

This is your opportunity to hear Alison Lester talk about the children’s books that inspired her, ask for a personal recommendation from George Megalogenis, or gain insight into the reading habits of these established and respected authors.

All eleven authors’ auction pages are currently live on the 32 Auctions website here. Bidding ends at 5pm, Friday 17 May.

So what are you waiting for? Choose your favourite author and get bidding!

Launched in 2009, the Readings Foundation assists Victorian organisations that support the development of literacy, community integration and the arts. Readings donates 10% of its overall profit to the Foundation each year, and the kind donations from Readings’ customers make a crucial contribution.
