September is a month of blockbusters, and our top sellers for the week reflects this trend. The list features new books from international names such as Ian McEwan (The Children Act), David Mitchell (The Bone Clocks) and Sarah Waters (The Paying Guests), as well as Australians Helen Garner (This House of Grief: The Story of a Murder Trial) and Sonya Hartnett (Golden Boys).

Last week also saw the release of a new Quarterly Essay. Our list includes A Rightful Place: Race, Recognition and a More Complete Commonwealth, in which Noel Pearson shows how the idea of ‘race’ was embedded in the constitution, and the distorting effect this has had.

Also released last week was the 2014 Man Booker Prize shortlist which included Readings favourite Karen Joy Fowler. We are All Completely Beside Ourselves is also included in our top sellers list and our reviewer says, ‘This is the kind of book where the less you know about the story before reading, the better.’

So, please, start reading soon!
