We were delighted to host the launch of Alison Evans’s debut crossover YA novel at our Carlton shop last Thursday. Ida is a gender-fluid, sci-fi story of growing up and parallel universes. It is also our bestselling YA book of the week!

Other bestselling YA novels of last week include Veronica Roth’s blockbuster new fantasy/Sci-fi story, and two Australian novels that tackle the politics surrounding refugees and detention centres for teenagers – Zana Fraillon’s The Bone Sparrow and Randa Abdel-Fattah’s When Michael Met Mina. Both were shortlisted for the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards 2017. Abdel-Fattah’s novel was not only named the winner of the Writing for Young Adults Award category, but was also voted the winner of the People’s Choice award.

We also love Rachel Ignotofsky’s gorgeous and informative Women in Science, which features profiles of 50 women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics fields. This is a wonderful gift for the young feminist in your life. Find more suggestions for feminist picture books here.
