National Bookshop Day was Saturday 10 August and we held celebrations at our Carlton, Hawthorn, St Kilda and Malvern shops.
Singing together, on mass, seems to bring out the very warmest of feelings. And so it was on Saturday morning as a group of teenagers, Readings employees, authors of both adult, toddler and young adult fiction joined together with choir members to give Readings customers a seemingly spontaneous performance of Throw Your Arms Around Me by Hunters and Collectors.
The singers paraded through the shop and finished with multiple renditions of the chorus. The joy! From us here at Readings, thank you to participants who gave up their Saturday morning to rehearse and then to perform. It was in the name of National Bookshop Day and it felt wonderful. It felt like our community and we are grateful.
