Good Omens by Neil Gaiman

Armageddon only happens once, you know. They don’t let you go around again until you get it right. What do you do when the apocalypse is coming? Do you drown your sorrows, laugh it off as a hoax, or do you do something about it? This is the predicament that Aziraphale, a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a fast-living demon, now find themselves in. They’ve been living on Earth since the beginning, and they’re somewhat used to the lifestyle. And then there’s the small matter that someone appears to have misplaced the Antichrist …

Soon to be a TV series starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant. Watch the trailer here.

The Dry by Jane Harper

Luke Hadler turns a gun on his wife and child, then himself. The farming community of Kiewarra is facing life and death choices daily. If one of their own broke under the strain, well …

When Federal Police investigator Aaron Falk returns to Kiewarra for the funerals, he is loath to confront the people who rejected him twenty years earlier. But when his investigative skills are called on, the facts of the Hadler case start to make him doubt this murder-suicide charge.

Soon to be a film starring Eric Bana, Jane Harper’s bestseller The Dry is Australian crime drama at its most thrilling.

The Last Thing He Wanted by Joan Didion

From the author of The Year of Magical Thinking comes a thrilling exploration of 1980s American politics. Journalist Elena McMahon sees her gruff, incomprehensible father’s life ebbing away. Walking off her job covering the 1984 election, she decides to care for him instead. But in a thrilling turn of events, she ends up working as an arms dealer for a covert agency. Soon to be a Netflix film starring Anne Hathaway, this is political espionage drama that is not to be missed.

Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer

Rumour has it Artemis Fowl is responsible for every major crime of the new century. Just twelve years old and already he’s a criminal genius, plotting to restore his family’s fortune with a spot of corruption and kidnapping. Kidnapping a fairy for ransom, to be precise. But be warned – this is a fantasy landscape like no other. Artemis Fowl has discovered a world below ground of armed and dangerous – and extremely high-tech – fairies. But he may have underestimated their powers. They will fight back. Is the boy about to trigger a cross-species war?

Fans of Eoin Colfer’s child criminal prodigy have been waiting for a film adaptation for years – and they’re finally about to get it. Watch the trailer here.

It: Part 2 by Stephen King

The first instalment of the new adaptation of Stephen King’s truly terrifying clown horror, It, hit screens in 2017, thrilling audiences worldwide. Now, we have Part 2 to look forward to, in which The Losers Club, all grown up, return to their hometown to do battle with Pennywise the clown a second time. Definitely one to be watched from behind the sofa.

The Woman in the Window by A. J. Finn

A psychologist with a crippling case of agoraphobia and confined to her house thinks she witnesses a horrible crime in the house across the street, leaving her with an ultimatum – does she call the police? Did she see what she thinks she saw? A. J. Finn’s international bestseller has Hitchcock overtones – Rear Window, anyone? – and has been a hit with lovers of psychological thrillers everywhere.

The new film adaptation stars Amy Adams and Julianne Moore and there are some very exciting production and behind-the-scenes stills to feast on while we wait for a trailer.

The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt

Thirteen-year-old Theo survives a terrorist attack in a museum that kills his mother. Taken in by a wealthy Manhattan family, The Goldfinch follows Theo’s life over the next ten years as he both learns to glide through the drawing rooms of the rich and is tormented by memories of his mother. Winning the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2014, Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch is being adapted into a film starring Ansel Elgort, Sarah Paulson and Nicole Kidman.

Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli

She’s as magical as the desert sky. As mysterious as her own name. Nobody knows who she is or where she’s from. But everyone loves her for being different. And she captures Leo’s heart with just one smile. Stargirl is a classic of our time that celebrates being true to ourselves and the thrill of first love. A life-changing read that touches souls of all ages.

There’s not a lot of information yet on the 2020 adaptation of Jerry Spinelli’s YA hit, Stargirl, yet, although a stellar cast headed by Giancarlo Esposito and Grace VanderWaal as the titular Stargirl can be seen on IMDb.

Lambs of God by Marele Day

For Iphigenia, Margarita and Carla, the crumbling monastery they live in is their whole world. They have their daily routines and at their nightly knitting circle, they tell stories – stitching into their work fairytales and myth. Whatever exists beyond their island home is forgotten. That is until the day Father Ignatius arrives, intent on transforming their forgotten paradise into a luxury resort.

It’s a dark, gothic tale; witty, suspenseful and featuring three generations of women (Ann Dowd, Essie Davis and Jessica Barden star in the mini-series) with steely resolve. Lambs of God is set to air later this year.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

It may have been originally published 150 years ago, but Louisa May Alcott’s enduring classic, Little Women, and its themes of teenage angst, sisterhood and growing pains will always ring true with readers young and old alike. It’s also no stranger to adaptation; it’s had film adaptations across the years (most notably in 1949 and 1994) a-plenty. But Greta Gerwig’s 2019 version, starring Emma Watson, Timothée Chalamet and Meryl Streep, is already sure to delight – some behind-the-scenes images can already be seen on the film’s production page.
