Literary stats for data nerds

Data nerds! We’ve compiled some statistics for the first half of this year and turned them into beautiful infographics for your appreciation.

A note about the data: the sales data in this report comes from our weekly top 10 bestseller lists (see an example here). This data excludes children’s bestsellers. Further statistics were gathered from our weekly ‘what we’re reading’ column (see an example here), our review list and all the events listed in our Readings Monthly newsletter.


Overall, fiction just nips non-fiction in the bud with 52% of our top 10 weekly bestsellers being fiction books.


We love Australian books, and it seems like our customers do too! Here’s ten more coming out in the second half of the year that our staff are excited about.


It’s been a terrific year for women writers this year at Readings. And we haven’t even included any of our sales from July which is a truly excellent month for Australian women writers. Read more here.


Not only is Emma Farrarons’ The Mindfulness Colouring Book: Anti-Stress Art Therapy for Busy People the undisputed queen of bestsellers, but colouring books formed 8% of all the books that made our weekly top 10 bestseller lists.
