Celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day 2017

Indigenous Literacy Day is Wednesday 6 September. This day is organised by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF), and here are some ways you can support them in their work.

Come along to a special Melbourne event

ILF ambassadors Andy Griffiths and Jared Thomas, along with students from Tiwi College Alalinguwi Jarrakarlinga on the Tiwi Islands (NT), will launch a joyous new children’s book: Shallow in the Deep End. The event will conclude with a Great Book Swap, and all guests are welcome to bring along a favourite book and gold coin to participate.

Come along to Deakin Edge in Federation Square at 10am on Wednesday 6 September to join in the fun. The event is free but bookings are essential.

Buy a book from any Readings shop

10% of funds from books sold in our shops on Wednesday 6 September will be donated to the ILF. We’re proud to have also raised $2700 for the organisation at our August event celebrating Andy Griffiths’ and Terry Denton’s The 91-Storey Treehouse – thank you to everyone who came along for your contribution.

Donate directly to ILF

ILF is a national charity of the Australian Book Industry that works to improve literacy rates and foster a love of reading for children in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia. You can learn more about the work of ILF here.
