At home with Chris Gordon

Finally, spring is here! To celebrate, I thought we would rejoice in plant-based meals. I hope these wonderful new books, all by women, inspire you.

East by Meera Sodha (Available 3 September)

Meera Sodha was born in England to Ugandan-Indian parents and was raised on a deliciousassortment of family recipes that had been passed down through generations. Sodha has made a living from writing about her family’s food, including in her role as ‘The New Vegan’ columnist for the Guardian. Her latest collection of recipes, East, is a vibrant, accessible plant-based cookbook inspired by a wide range of Asian cuisines, from India to Indonesia, China to Singapore, by way of Thailand and Vietnam.

The Shared Table by Clare Scrine (Available 1 September)

I love this cookbook so much. Clare Scrine is a Brisbane food writer who began cooking themeddinner parties for her mates and recording the recipes. Inspired by life in share houses, and with sections such as ‘breakfast spread’, ‘hungover brunch’, and ‘comfort food’, each of these vegan and vegetarian recipes will feed a crowd without breaking the bank or spending hours in the kitchen.

The Global Vegan by Ellie Bullen

Ellie Bullen’s philosophy is to eat more plants and here she shows you exactly how easy (andmagical) that can be. All the recipes are inspired by her travels around the world to places such as Indonesia, India, Korea and Japan. This cookbook is an explosion of colourful photos and recipes and is a perfect portrait of how to prepare and celebrate vegan food. This picture-perfectcookbook is for those just stepping out of home and wanting to make all the right moves.

Vignette by Jane Lopes

Jane Lopes is the wine director of Melbourne’s Attica restaurant and is the very first femaleMaster Sommelier in Australia! Lopes selected one hundred bottles – including wine, some spirits and beers – and created Vignette, which is part-memoir and part-wine-wisdom treasury. It’s the perfect, inspiring read for those who want to increase their knowledge of wines and wine–food pairings.

Chris Gordon is the programming and events manager for Readings.
