A letter from Mark Rubbo on Indigenous Literacy Day

Dear friends,

Today is Indigenous Literacy Day. I am writing to seek your support for the work the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) does to foster literacy in remote communities around Australia. Indigenous Literacy Day is a great way to launch a month of national celebration of Indigenous culture, stories, language and literacy. You can donate today and help fill those empty bookshelves in remote communities in Australia. Every donation will help the ILF buy new, carefully chosen books for those who don’t have any. Just $20 will gift two books and $200 will fill an empty bookshelf.

The ILF runs three targeted programs: Book Supply, which supplies age and culturally relevant new books to over 250 remote communities each year; Book Buzz, which is an early literacy program targeting pre-school children; and the Community Publishing Program, which helps remote communities bring their stories to life.

This year the ILF has expanded the Book Buzz program and they now have a dedicated indigenous educator visiting remote communities and helping set up book groups for little kids and their parents. $250 will pay for all the materials needed to set up a Book Buzz group.

You can donate to ILF by clicking here. I urge you to do it today! Your support, no matter how large or small, will really make a difference. Today Readings will be donating 10% of our book sales to the ILF, on top of our continuous support.

Please help by supporting this important work – together we can make a difference!

Kind regards,
Mark Rubbo
