A beginner's guide to Lynette Noni

One day, a few years ago, I walked into my local bookstore and picked up a copy of Lynette Noni’s first novel, Akarnae. Intrigued, I bought it and read it. Ever since, I have been immersed in the worlds of Lynette Noni. She is a #1 bestselling author – and for good reason. So, now that you know you really should be reading her works, where do you start? This guide is here to help!

If you want to escape this world: The Medoran Chronicles

Lynette’s first series, The Medoran Chronicles, is composed of five books, one collection of short stories, and a novella. It tells the story of Alexandra Jennings, who one day steps through a doorway into another world… literally. It’s a highly entertaining series with an amazing boarding school, cool magical abilities, a light-hearted tone, amazing best friends and a very attractive antagonist.

The reading order is as follows: Akarnae, Raelia, Draekora, Graevale, We Three Heroes (short stories), Vardaesia, and A Very Merry Kaldoras (digital novella). One thing to note, is that readers don’t necessarily need to read the short stories in We Three Heroes or A Very Merry Kaldoras to understand the main plot.

Anyone who loves an epic YA fantasy will sink their teeth into The Medoran Chronicles, not just once, but many times.

If you want dystopian fiction which is unique and unpredictable: Whisper

In 2018, Lynette released Whisper, the first book in an epic dystopian duology. The main character, ‘Jane Doe’, has been locked up inside a government facility for an undisclosed amount of time, during which she has not uttered a single word. Lynette builds on this interesting premise by creating an air of mystery appropriate for a dystopian series, a creepy antagonist who isn’t easily visible, and an intense love triangle.

The second instalment is titled Weapon, and both novels have been made available in a 2-for-1 book. And, in case you are wondering, it’s even more exciting and fast-paced than The Medoran Chronicles, since all of the action has to fit into two books instead of five!

If you love darker fantasy like Sarah J. Maas: The Prison Healer

Just recently, The Prison Healer was released, which is the first book in a new series. I didn’t think that it was at all possible for this to surpass any of her other books, but for me it’s the absolute favourite! It was so bingeable and I couldn’t put it down.

The story centres around Kiva Meridan, an inmate at a notorious labour prison who works as the prison healer (hence the title). It’s a bit darker than her previous books, as it’s set in a prison where no-one survives for long because they are literally worked to death. Despite the darker setting, Lynette still manages to weave in her usual magic, such as solid friendships and colourful characters. The second instalment, The Gilded Cage, releases in spring this year, and I can’t wait!

So, regardless of what your favourite kind of story is, you’ll find something you’ll love if you look inside a Lynette Noni book.
