Otherland

is the story of a six-week trip traversing three generations, three lifetimes and three profoundly different but profoundly interconnected stories of mothers and daughters. Maria was born in 1974 in the former Soviet Union in a Russian Jewish family, which in 1989 immigrated to Australia. This is the story of her return.

Maria has published two books: Traumascapes (2005), which was shortlisted (in the prize for a first book of history) in the 2006 Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards and Courage (2007), which was shortlisted for the Douglas Stewart Prize for Non-Fiction in the 2008 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards.
