Walpurgis Night’s Dream / Walpurgisnachtstraum

With Walpurgis Night's Dream, the renowned portrait and fashion photographer Joachim Baldauf shows a previously unknown side of his work.

His portraits, studio and outdoor shots are placed in a new context by assigning them to themes and quotations from Goethe's Faust I and Faust II. The content of the classic tragedy is thus interpreted in a new way and made visually accessible and the photographs are simultaneously placed in a new, expanded framework of meaning.

From analogue photography to mixed reality and artificial intelligence Baldauf skilfully moves through a complex visual spectrum and creates fascinating, revealing and sometimes provocative images. Introduced by a short text by the editor on the literary motif of Walpurgisnacht and supplemented by a personal contribution by the photographer himself, the result is an extraordinary work that combines photography, art and literature and transports us into the mysterious world of Walpurgisnacht.
