An illustrated biography of one of the most outstanding Tibetan Buddhist masters of the twentieth century.
Jamyang Khyentse Ch kyi Lodr (1893-1959), the previous incarnation of Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse, was an essential bridge between the ecumenical Rime masters of the nineteenth century (Ju Mipham, Patrul Rinpoche, Chogyur Lingpa, Jamg n Kongtrul) and the lamas of today (Dilgo Khyentse, Tulku Thondup, Sogyal Rinpoche, and so many others). The staggeringly long lists of all the teachings he received and passed on testify to his abiding appreciation for all aspects of the Dharma, and his list of students reveals how his influence transcended sectarian boundaries.
The first half of this weighty tome presents intimate tales about Jamyang Khyentse Ch kyi Lodr that were compiled orally by Orgyen Tobgyal Rinpoche, Dzigar Kongtrul’s older brother, and translated here into English for the first time. This portion introduces readers to the characters and events in Jamyang Khyentse Ch kyi Lodr ‘s life with the aid of roughly 60 halftone images. The second half of the book is an English translation of Dilgo Khyentse’s official spiritual biography, or namtar, of Jamyang Khyentse Ch kyi Lodr . This portion focuses on his exemplary qualities and route to liberation, especially how he followed and contributed to the nonsectarian vision and ideals of his predecessor, Khyentse Wangpo.
