On her 14th birthday, Caiti NicNeven discovers her true mother is the queen of the Sidhe, the faery folk who live in the hollow hills of Scotland. The faery queen demands Caiti be her instrument of revenge upon the mortal queen whose ancestors stole the throne a thousand years before. To escape her mother's dark plot, Caiti runs away, drawing on magic newly discovered. She takes refuge at the court of Mary, Queen of Scots, returned from France at just eighteen years old. Inspired by the true story of the first Scottish witch-hunt in 16th century Scotland, The Changeling draws on testimonies given by accused witches at their trials which included accounts of changelings, faery queens, ghosts, shapeshifting sorceresses and plots against the crown.
