‘I reach out a claw And catch a thread in your best Shirt. It snags; I yawn.’ ‘Surprise! I can jump Through the newspaper while you Are still reading it!’ The cat has been with us since time began. Enigmatic, independent, surprising, single-minded, loving - cats are all these things and impose themselves on our lives. The haiku is an ancient and honourable Japanese verse form - three lines, 17 syllables, encapsulating a vision of the essence of the thing, scene or person being written about.
