We are lucky to have Palestinian poet, Ghayath Almadhoun join us to discuss his poetry collection I have brought you a severed hand.
Fluid and unselfconscious, I have brought you a severed hand (Divided Publishing, 2025) is a collection of love poems in the shape of nightmares. Ghayath Almadhoun writes with a surreal mix of scathing humour, serious hope and heteroerotic lust. Caught between two exiles, the one inherited from his Palestinian father and the one he chose and lives, these poems try to explain water and tame hope. Written over the years 2017 to 2023, Almadhoun takes us to Palestine, Syria, Germany and Sweden, reasserting the stakes for those unable to leave their states of imprisonment while proposing that hope may be inseparable from the absurdity of violence.
Almadhoun will be joined in conversation by fellow poet Ender Başkan.
