Former journalist of The Australian Elisabeth Wynhausen has written a fantastic exploration of the GFC and that period in Australia. She gives more of a social history of the Global Financial Crisis that tells the stories of some of the people whose lives were profoundly affected. In The Short Goodbye she exposes the myth that nothing much happened in Australia. She talked to people who have never since had steady jobs and people of retirement age who lost their homes and their savings, barely months before the meltdown became the recession we never had.
