David L. Mearns discussing The Search for the Sydney
RACV Club, Melbourne.
US-born marine scientist, researcher and deep-sea shipwreck hunter David Mearns will talk of his latest book The Search for the Sydney: How Australia’s Greatest Maritime Mystery was Solved which is the full and official story of the six-year hunt for HMAS Sydney by the man who found her. In riveting detail David Mearns recounts how he solved the mysteries, which had baffled those who went before him, and how he pieced together the story of what really happened on a fateful day over half a century ago.
David Mearns has found and filmed some of the world’s most famous and controversial shipwrecks; notoriously difficult wrecks that others predicted would never be found or their mysteries solved. David and his company, Blue Water Recoveries Ltd, have located 21 major shipwrecks and have been awarded three Guinness World Records, including one for the deepest shipwreck ever found, at 5,762 metres.
