Craig Batty will talk about Screenplays, How to Write and Sell Them.
This new book is an accessible yet comprehensive guide for anyone who wants to write feature film screenplays. It uses case studies, creative exercises and interviews with people working in the industry to help readers through the successive stages of writing a screenplay—from developing characters to shaping scenes and determining the structure of the story. It also helps readers consider how a screenplay might be sold, and gives advice on finding an agent, networking, and raising private production funds.
Dr Craig Batty is Senior Lecturer in Creative and Professional Writing at RMIT. He has also taught at The Media School at Bournemouth University. Dr Batty has worked on various short film, feature film and television projects, and written numerous articles about screenwriting and media writing for publications such as Writing in Education, ScriptWriter Magazine, New Writing and the Journal of Screenwriting. He is the co-author of three books, Writing for the Screen: Creative and Critical Approaches (Palgrave Macmillan, 2008), Media Writing: A Practical Introduction (Palgrave Macmillan, 2010) and The Creative Screenwriter: Exercises to Expand Your Craft (Methuen, 2012), and the author of the book Movies that Move Us: Screenwriting and the Power of the Protagonist’s Journey (Palgrave Macmillan, 2011).
