Can Australian literature survive another round of arts cuts?
Readings Hawthorn, Woiwurrung Country, 687 Glenferrie Rd, Hawthorn, Victoria, 3122
The arts in Australia has been severely underfunded for over a decade. Close to the bottom of the funding pile is Australian writing, which receives just 6 percent of Australia Council funding, with 81% of writers receiving less than $15,000 per annum.
Co-hosted by The Australian Book Review, join us as author Emily Bitto, publishing industry professional Clare Forster, Editor of Australian Book Review, Peter Rose, and media and arts academic and journalist, Ben Eltham discuss what the future of Australian writing and the Australian voice might be over the next decade as the sector faces a number of challenges. How could government policy help reset Australian literature on a positive trajectory?
