Inspired by a real-life murder on Norfolk Island, a tiny, isolated island off the coast of Australia, The Newcomer examines in close detail the murder of a young woman, Paulina, and the devastating effect the murder has on Paulina’s mother, Judy. The story is told in chapters that alternate perspectives between these two women, and which span the years leading up to Paulina’s death as well as much of Judy’s life after Paulina is killed.
