Devil In His Sunday Best

Stetson Family

They ain?t related and they don?t wear hats! What the Stetsons do is deliver a fresh twist on a timeless sound.

A five-piece band of knockabouts, they are at the forefront of Melbourne?s progressive bluegrass scene digging deep into the high-lonesome roots of folk, alt-country and bluegrass to unearth their own unique brand of Australian music. Their original songs are at times dark and dusty, joyous, lovelorn and heartbreaking - or just plain downright tongue in cheek.

The songwriting and lead vocals of Nadine Budge and John Bartholomeusz are aided and abetted by Colin ?Swanny? Swan?s rolling Scruggs-style banjo, Andy ?Eck? Carswell?s ringing mandolin and ?Cool-hand? Luke Richardson?s driving double bass.

The three short years they?ve been together has seen the band produce two albums, Hey Sister Mary, Where?d You Get That Gun (EP) - #1 Independent Alt-Country/Roots Album on 99.9BayFM?s ?Mystery Train, along with this much anticipated release ? ?…a great set of songs played with great feel and great honesty by a bunch of people who are obviously joined by the sheer joy and love of making good music together.? (Review, Upstream Whispers, Oct 2011)

The band have been firing up the national festival circuit over the last few years including the Mullumbimby Music Festival, the National Music Muster (Gympie), Brunswick Music Festival, Maldon Folk Festival, Harrietville International Bluegrass Convention, Illawarra Folk in the Foothills, Kelly Country Pick, as well as gathering a loyal bunch of folk on their tours pf the east coast.

Their music was also chosen to feature in the SBS documentary ?Last Chance Saloon?.

?If The Stetson Family?s new album, ?The Devil in His Sunday Best? is an indication of how well Melbourne bluegrass is doing we have a good deal to celebrate!? (Review, Unpaved Oct 2011)
