Marketing Manager - Carlton, Vic

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced marketing professional as we seek to appoint a new Marketing Manager to head the marketing team based at our head office in Carlton. This senior position, reporting directly to the Managing Director, is responsible for developing, implementing and driving marketing strategies that create greater brand equity, expand Readings’ customer base and lead to profitable and sustainable growth.

The role is expected to be full-time, 38 hours per week across 5 days.

The key duties of this role are:

  • Develop strategic marketing plans to promote all product categories and events while leveraging Readings unique brand values to reach new customer segments.
  • Understand the implications of key market trends, changing customer segments and competitive activity in order to position Readings in a unique and favourable way.
  • Work with shop managers to develop local area marketing plans that promote a unified brand image while recognising the individuality of each shop and the needs of each locality it serves.
  • Manage the capturing of key customer insights and refine Readings’ customer database to allow for targeted, cost effective marketing communications and promotions.
  • Maintain and enhance Readings’ relationships with media, partners and sponsors, publishers and suppliers, authors and artists, cultural partnerships and community groups.
  • Develop, monitor and report against budgets.
  • Develop and implement policies, procedures and guidelines to govern events, sponsorship, marketing and promotional activities.
  • Manage and evaluate performance of direct reports and monitor performance of the wider marketing team.

The key selection criteria for this position are as follows:

  • Tertiary qualified – Marketing degree or similar
  • Experience in managing a recognised, distinctive brand (within retail, FMCG or Arts/cultural industries is favourable), including;
    • broad strategic marketing and communications planning and project management experience,
    • publicity and public relations experience, and
    • budget management experience
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strong working partnerships through relationship building
  • Highly organised and a creative marketer
  • Strong communication, negotiation and leadership skills
  • A proven track record in managing a team of staff and contractors
  • A confident personality who gains the respect of their peers
  • Knowledge of the Australian and international publishing scene is beneficial

Online Content Assistant (Children’s Specialist) – Head Office, Carlton, VIC
Part Time

We are seeking an online content assistant to help create fresh and attractive content for the Readings website and in Readings enews, with a particular focus on children’s books, to drive traffic to the website and ultimately increase online sales revenue.

The position is permanent part time, across 2 weekdays, and is based at our head office in Carlton.

Working within our marketing team and reporting to the Digital Marketing Manager, the key requirements of the role are to:

  • Curate children’s and YA books into online collections
  • Manage and update the Kids and Schools pages on the Readings website
  • Write blog posts and create online content focusing on children’s books and YA content
  • Read and write reviews of children’s and YA books
  • Identify news items of interest related to children’s literature/YA
  • Keep up to date with new releases and promotions
  • Monitor sales and online promotions of children’s and YA books, and identify opportunities and improvements
  • Maintain and update a schools database
  • Create recommended reading lists etc for institutional customers
  • Assist in the promotion and merchandising of the Readings brand to schools and parents with children online

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • An interest in, and knowledge of, children’s and young adult literature, particularly by Australian authors
  • Strong communication and organisational skills
  • Attention to detail and the ability to work to deadlines
  • A flexible and open-minded approach
  • Experience managing and updating digital content
  • Familiarity with email marketing, social media, blogs and web content
  • A flair for online writing to a range of audiences and demographics
  • Experience with MailChimp would be an advantage
  • Experience in the book trade or publishing industry is a plus
