STORE MANAGER – CARLTON

This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an experienced, hands-on person to take on the role of Manager of our iconic Carlton store, the largest and busiest of our shops. The role is expected to be permanent full-time (38 hours per week).

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will be responsible for all aspects of the day to day operation of the Carlton store. Also, as a member of the Readings leadership team, you will contribute to the strategic development of the business.

The shop is open seven days a week until late and so flexibility with working hours will also be essential.

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate the following:

  • a solid bookselling track record, including experience in buying, inventory management and merchandising, and preferably in a management role
  • a strong understanding of all aspects of retail management
  • excellent human relations, communication and organisational skills
  • an ability to lead and motivate a team
  • a confident personality who gains the respect of their peers
  • a genuine commitment to excellent customer service
  • a passion for books, music & film
  • an understanding of the Readings market
  • strong IT skills

Also desirable but not essential are the following:

  • a knowledge of BookNet
  • a sound knowledge of occupational health & safety
  • prior experience or qualifications in marketing or finance
