Readings is delighted to be opening a shop at Westfield Doncaster at the beginning of August, and we are now seeking to make two appointments for this new store; an Assistant Manager and a Senior Customer Service Officer.

The shop will be open seven days a week, with late closing on Thursdays and Fridays, so flexibility with working hours will be essential.

Assistant Manager

This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic bookseller to take on a senior role in our company. The role is expected to be permanent full time (37.5 hours per week across 5 days). It is anticipated that the Assistant Manager will work one weekend shift each week.

Reporting to the Shop Manager, and in addition to general shop duties, the key responsibilities of this role are to assist the Manager in: • Staff and roster management • Day to day essential shop operations such as opening/closing • Buying responsibilities for the shop, including management of the inventory • Cash management • Establishing and cultivating positive relationships within the industry and the local community to enhance the profitability and reputation of Readings

The key selection criteria for this position are as follows: • extensive knowledge of the Australian and international publishing scene • experience of working to targets and meeting deadlines • well developed customer service skills • a confident personality who gains the respect of their peers • excellent human relations, communication and organisational skills

Demonstration of the following attributes will be an advantage: - a solid retail sales track record, particularly in the book industry - experience of book buying and range development - a wide knowledge of and passion for Children’s and youth literature - experience of receiving gained from a retail environment - sound knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety

Senior Customer Service Officer

We’re also seeking to appoint an experienced and hands-on person who is looking for a new challenge in a brand new location. The role is expected to be permanent full-time (37.5 hours per week) and may include weekend or evening shifts (the shop will be open until 9pm on Thursdays and Fridays).

Reporting to shop management, you will be responsible for general shop duties including customer service, sales, receiving and returns, and maintaining shop presentation. In addition, you may have other responsibilities such as cash management, specialisation in a particular product offering, or even hosting in-store events.

Selection criteria: The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate the following: • a solid retail sales track record, particularly in the book or music industry • excellent human relations, communication and organisational skills • a confident personality who gains the respect of their peers • a genuine commitment to excellent customer service
