The King’s Speech is a British historical drama film directed by Tom Hooper from a script by David Seidler. The story of King George VI of Britain, his impromptu accession to the throne and the speech therapist who helped the unsure monarch become worthy of it. The film won the 2010 Toronto International Film Festival People’s Choice Award and is tipped to be the leading Oscar-nominated film of 2011. The film stars Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter. Alexandre Desplat has composed extensively for over 100 films, in France and in Hollywood including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 (2010), Fantastic Mr. Fox (Oscar nomination and a BAFTA nomination), The Golden Compass, Lust, Caution, Girl with a Pearl Earring, The Painted Veil (Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score, Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award for Best Music, and the 2006 World Soundtrack Award), The Queen (BMI Film Music Award, 2007 World Soundtrack Award, 2007 European Film Award, and received his first Academy Award nomination), The Beat My Heart Skipped and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Oscar nomination) The Kings Speech soundtrack was recorded at Abbey Road studios using original Royal microphones that had been stored in the EMI archives for more than 70 years. These microphones were designed for King George VI for speeches on significant occasions, the central character of this film.
