The digital revolution has led a number of record companies to raid their vaults and repackage and market the material to a whole new audience; the mid-90s explosion in lounge music was the first manifestation of the trend. More successful - and more inspired - was the decision by the soul and jazz label Verve to get modern turntable artists to remix its back catalogue. This is the second CD in the series, with Dizzy Gillespie being joined up with the Funky Lowlives, Ella Fitzgerald’s Angel Eyes getting the treatment from Layo & Bushwacka, and Sarah Vaughan’s_Whatever Lola Wants_ being placed in the sympathetic hands of the superb Gotan Project. Consistently interesting.
