Review

I’m loving this new series from Decca, they’re presenting the 50 essential works by 50 composers of the 20th Century. Of course the name that pops up in the top ten is John Cage. This recording has the Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano written in 1946-48. Taking much inspiration from the Indian tradition, the music is rhythmic and yet the use of repeated pitch centres makes for an interesting and accessible recording. Don’t be scared if you’re not into contemporary music, this recording is well worth listening to and would be a great if you’re looking for something with a bit of spice and otherworldliness.
