For this disc of Verismo arias, Fleming has chosen arias, for the most part, from lesser-known operas of the period. They show the beautiful dark, full quality of Fleming’s voice and how she is able to use this quality effectively to capture the Verismo essence and with subtlety, rather than with histrionics. Sample the aria from the alternative La Bohème by Leoncavallo and the poignant Liu scene from Turandot and Fleming’s artistry is immediately discernable. This disc is a must for all opera lovers.
