Part Lamentate
Hilliard Ensemble Lubimov
Two world- premiere recordings to celebrate Part’s 70th birthday firstly Da Pacem Domine, a prayer for peace that was originally composed for Jordi Savall. Sung with great beauty by the Hilliard Ensemble, it’s a six minute piece, but it’s like a sacred breath. Their harmonies will pierce you. Then, the title work-Lamentate a totally instrumental homage born from Part’s regard for Marsyas, a stunning Anish Kapoor sculpture housed at the Tate. This is a lament for the living. With Lubimov’s exquisite solo piano and the powerful Stuttgart Orchestra, the pain and hope of our lives resound. Melancholy, drama, the emotion of the spaces in between, all define Part as the composer of our century. Amazing!
