Indispensable money guide The Barefoot Investor is our bestselling book of the past six months. In clear language and with easy-to-follow instructions, Scott Pape demonstrates how to create a financial plan that is ‘so simple you can sketch it on the back of a serviette’. His book has certainly converted a number of our booksellers!

Our list also includes two prize-winning Australian novels, The Museum of Modern Love won the Stella Prize and Between a Wolf and a Dog won the Fiction category of the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards. The new format of Jane Harper’s breakout literary crime debut The Dry has been a popular pick, as has the two film tie-in editions of Saroo Brierley’s memoir – one for adult readers and one for younger readers.

Two provocative and timely non-fiction reads about Australian politics are also being snapped up by our customers. In Depends What You Mean by Extremist, John Safran embeds himself with Australian political extremists, and in his latest Quarterly Essay, David Marr examines the rise of One Nation.

Also in non-fiction – Fighting Hislam and Fight Like a Girl are two powerful non-fiction reads from renowned Melbourne feminists Susan Carland and Clementine Ford. (You can find more feminist books by Australian writers here.)

And finally, we’re absolutely delighted to see Karen Foxlee’s beautiful, immersive children’s novel listed here. A Most Magical Girl is the winner of this year’s Readings Children’s Book Prize. Find out why we loved it here.

Ed. note: The list combines sales from all Readings shops and our website. Where possible, different editions of titles have been combined to reflect total sales of each title. The list includes all genres. It covers sales from 1 January 2017 to 30 June 2017.
