To my mind, the release of this CD confirms Carl Vine’s standing as one of Australia’s finest composers. This recording features his string quartets 3, 2, 4 and 5 as wellas selections from his first string quartet work, the Knips Suite. The chosen quartets are all single movement but with distinct sections in each that flows seamlessly, involving the audience completely in the listening experi- ence. In addition, it would be remiss of me not to acknowledge the brilliant playing of the Goldner String Quartet, whose complete understanding of the music makes this CD a highlight of the classical year.
