As a child I remember that ‘uplifting experience’ upon entering an example of great architecture, that positive effect on my sense of wellbeing that made me wonder how it was achieved. Reading The Story of Buildings brought back those fond memories.

The book combines stories of extraordinary architecture and those inspired to design and construct them with detailed, cross-sectional illustrations that deconstruct the buildings, revealing them in all of their glory. Taking the reader on a global journey, it highlights 16 iconic buildings, from the Parthenon to the Sydney Opera House, with an architectural timeline and definitions of architectural terms. It would be suitable for inquisitive minds aged 9 and up.
